Teachers: In order to conduct an on-campus, off-campus or overnight Experiential Learning Opportunity linked to your lesson, unit and/or project, please follow the 5 step process below:

Note: If more than your class or an entire grade level is participating in and experiential learning opportunity.  Only one member of the team needs to fill out the form on behalf of the team.

Step 1: Complete a form

Once a form is completed, you will be contacted by one of our Experiential Learning team members.  We will then support you by making all arrangements, bookings, etc.  If there are financial requirements for the experiences, we will put this all together, create contracts and/or reservations and gain approval from your Principal, for you.

Step 2: Communication

  1. Once the Office of Learning has gotten your form from step one approved, you may communicate to your team members with all the details we have worked out for you. You also need to email all parents regarding the experiential learning opportunity that you are going to participate in with their child(ren).
  2. All parents will submit an 'Universal Experiential Learning Parent Consent Form' at the beginning of the school year, giving approval for their child to participate in experiential learning opportunities.  This will give us all the data we need regarding passport, visa, medical and insurance information for each child to give teachers.  However, before each off-campus or overnight opportunity, you and/or your team must inform parents of the experience by using our template below.  (This should occur at least seven day in advance of the learning opportunity). If parents have questions, concerns or requests for modifications, they will contact the High School office, your team or you directly.  All you need to do is fill in the template below and send to parents via email or Studywiz.  Template for the 'Experiential Learning Opportunity Letter to Parents'. (Template)
Note: Teachers need to submit the letter template to your principal for edits and final approval before sending to your students' parents.

Fianlly, please email any documents that you have, including your itinerary and other essential information to the Experiential Learning team. Our team will download the information onto iPads for you to utilize during your off-campus or overnight experience.  The iPads will also contain emergency contact information.

Step 3: First Aid Kits, iPads and Medical Issues

(Step 3 is only needed for off-campus or overnight Experiential Learning Opportunities)
  1. Before you depart ISB for off-campus or overnight Experiential Learning Opportunities, please make sure you are aware of any student who requires special attention or modification.  (This documentation will be given to you by a school nurse and an electronic version will be on the iPad you are given before you leave campus.)
  2. If going off-campus, please pick up First Aid kits from the Elementary Nurses' office (for all EC-12 experiences).  The Experiential Learning team will reserve first aid kits for your learning experience so all you need to do is pick-up the kit.  Again, please make sure you are aware of any students with health issues before any experience.  Any questions, please talk with the school nurse on how to work with students with allergies or medical needs.  Activities and learning opportunities may need to be adapted or alternative activities provided in order to meet all students' needs.
  3. Finally, please collect an iPad if you are leaving campus.  iPads have emergency contact information, student medical information, student/staff passport information, procedures and itineraries for easy reference.  (All information will be locked for safety and you will be given the code.)
  4. If you are in an emergency situation please use the iPad to find emergency contact details and the student's medical insurance information.  You will also have parent contact information.
  5. However, please make sure you have programed the SOS Emergency Hotline number, your Principal's contact number and our Head of Security's contact number into your phone for easy access.
ISB Staff: please make sure you watch and apply the procedures in this video if an emergency should occur while you are conducting off-campus or overnight experiential learning opportunities for students.

Step 4: Capturing Evidence of Experiential Learning, PBL, Chinese Integration, and/or SP IV:

  1. During the off-campus or overnight Experiential Learning Opportunity, please use your iPad to capture evidence of learning.  We are looking for 10 seconds to 2 minute video clips so that we can use later to showcase your awesomeness with your students.  Please capture a variety of activities or learnings that students are participating in.
  2. Once you are back, please turn your iPad in to the Office of Learning.  We will download your photos/video and can give you clips for your assessment purposes as well.
  3. If you are conducting an on-campus Experiential Learning Opportunity, the Office of Learning will try our best to visit to capture photos and video but we ask that you also capture evidence on a camera or device and air drop it to us.
