Legendary Chinese director Zhang Yimou visited ISB during our first week back after the break in what marked another major milestone for us in experiential learning this year. The internationally renowned filmmaker participated in three student-led dialogues, one for HS film students, one for MS and HS students, and the other for our community, in the theater on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
In his first dialogue, Mr. Zhang shared his insight about values at the core of our Learning21 curriculum, including innovation and creativity, global thinking, leadership, responsibility and communication and collaboration. Later when he spoke to our community, he discussed his career highlights and contribution to Chinese and world cinema. His visit created a variety of unique experiential learning opportunities for our students.
Mr. Zhang’s visit aligned with initiatives in Strategic Plan IV by increasing learning through an authentic, compelling local engagement (SI 1), optimizing each student’s capacity to learn through individualized opportunities (SI 2), and increasing access to expertise through collaborative efforts and networks beyond ISB (SI 5).
As an internationally renowned director, he also embodies ISB core values of global-mindedness and creativity.
